In part one I endeavor to share an insight into
dragon lore found in early civilizations. Afterward
we will flow into how dragons can be entwined
with modern civilization.
Throughout numerous civilizations the commanding
dragon is a beast of fairy-tale proportion.
While the power of a dragon is a constant in
numerous societies, the appearance and impact
is not. In modern day, many of us embellish
our person with the countenance of dragons,
to impart their traits of projection and radiance.
Others have a passion for symbols of the dragon’s
power in the form of dragon figurines.
Unlike in the East, the Western personification
of dragons are seen as harbingers of ruin, instead
of the final guard of the hidden treasure of
wisdom. The Norse Viking cultures reveled in
the sign of the dragon as their figurehead,
and often carved the image into the mastheads
of their mighty ships and boldly marked them
into various weaponry.When Christianity was
introduced, dragons’ reputations became even
worse and they came to be known as satanic beasts.
In many Western and some Eastern cultures, dragons
imply a supreme being. Many of the disciplines
that regards this create as so, are the Draconic
Wiccans, the Celts, Gnostics, Alchemists and
many other sects.Offering hope, valor, and good
fate, the whimsical winged beast is said to
imply the essence of nature and impart a innate
power to bend or transform attributes.Legend
often presents dragons as the protectors of
the “flaming pearl,” a gem symbolizing spiritual
perfection. You will often see this pearl in
dragon figurines and dragon collectibles.
You will sometimes see Celtic dragons in a circular
position, tail to mouth. Perfect is represented
as a circle, in most occult sects, including
Paganism, due to the embodiment of transformation
and eternity. Dragons are known to to represent
wisdom on the Etheric and Astral planes.
Dragons can be portrayed as terrifying in our
modern literature and movies. Fire-breathing
beasts that create roadblocks in our lives and
that threaten to consume our little children.
If one were to wear Dragons with the more Western
viewpoint, they could now represent might and
freedom and independence. Any intentions of
evil should not be considered. Most of the time,
when we see a dragon, it isn’t a mark to fear,
but one of protection.
Mighty amulets can be crafted if dragon emblems
are employed in the ritual work. Good luck can
be attracted if wearing a talisman close to
our person - thereby all negative forces will
be driven away. Besides just at night under
your pillow or bedding, your amulet can be adorned
at all times, or whenever a surge of inspiration
is needed! However even without the constraint
of a physical form, the essence and virtues
of dragons can be realized for personal power.
Simply concentrate on the image of a dragon
in as much detail as possible in your mind’s
eye. Pretend that your personal protection is
growing larger and larger until it envelops
you with its vital force in a safe way. Instruct
this image to repel any negative influences
that threatens your protective barrier.
In part two, the significant dragon makes an
appearance in present civilization and pop culture.
